Brief Resort Overview: The resort is located in the 'Southern' French Alps at an altitude of 1250m approximately 80 miles SW of Turin, Italy, 15 miles from the Italian Border. Briançon is a Unesco world heritage town with a striking medieval citadel within walking distance of the gondola and ski run. The walled fortress citadel houses a stunning temple and other buildings and artifacts dating from the 13th century. It is especially pretty during a fresh evening snowfall. The resort has an extensive lift network which links the base villages via high mountain ski runs. The resort has several back-country powder bowls which can be easily accessed either by skiing from the top of a lift or by completing a short hike. The resort is on the Eastern edge of the Ecrins National Park. The six day Grande Serre Che ski pass also allows you to ski for a day in Sestrière, Italy (45 minutes by taxi). Principal advantages of the resort: Sunshine and culture. The resort is the only French ski resort with a UNESCO world heritage town at its base. It is also the only ski resort in the French Alps with a natural hot springs where you can soak away ski weary muscle pain.
